Old Courier level.

If I remember correctly, that thing was badged as a Ford and was, in fact, a Mazda. Not going to Google, just going to let you all correct me mercilessly.

No you’re right. Mazda/Ford light truck cooperation goes back a ways.

Probably correct. The B-series and Rangers were also interchangeable, and Ford had a 30% (?) share of Mazda for a while.

And SUVs/crossovers too! Hmm I wonder what a badge engineered NA miata would look like.

A Miata spinning wildly off into a crowd of people.

Ex had a Ranger badged as a Mazda many moons ago. The 5 speed gearbox was not helpful when you were trying to find 3rd.

“Miastang”
(I was going to add a picture of a wrecked miata to this comment, but after a quick search, all the pictures seem to be pretty gruesome. Yikes.)

Yeah, but afaik they nearly all came with a Ford 2.3 petrol engine instead of the Mazda unit.

Yep. That one is pretty close to my first truck. Go back to the moon wheels, remove the bed tie-downs, and add a blue pinstripe and Bingo! It would be mine.
